No. 3 Pacific Men's Water Polo Rolls Over Santa Clara, 21-9
The No. 3 Pacific men's water polo team posted a 21-9 win over No. 15 Santa Clara in the first round of the NorCal Tournament Saturday morning at Diablo Valley College Pool behind four goals each from seniors Andres Oneto and Goran Tomasevic.
The Tigers, the four-seed in the tournament, advance to the second round to face the winner of five seed Stanford and 12-seed UC Davis. Pacific's second round game is at 6:50 p.m. at DVC Pool.
Pacific (6-0) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and pulled away with a seven-goal outburst in the second for a 11-4 lead at halftime. The Tigers defense clamped down, holding Santa Clara to one goal in the third quarter, taking a 16-5 lead into the final frame. The Tigers cruised home from there, with a five-goal period.
Senior Balazs Erdelyi added three goals to bring him to 26 on the season, while Casey Fleming and Kevin Oliveira each chipped in two.
The Tigers also received a goal each from senior Balazs Szabo, junior Alex Obert, sophomores Daniel Kemether and Aleksandar Petrovic, and freshmen J.T. Sarmento and Ben Stevenson.
