Brandon Stanton's New York Times bestselling book, "Humans of New York," which is based on his popular blog and facebook site, is a heartfelt, funny and inspiring collection of photographs and stories capturing the spirit of a city.
"Humans of New York" comes to PacificBrandon Stanton, creator of the popular "Humans of New York" blog and Facebook page, has been selected by the Powell Scholars to receive the Emerging Leader Award. He will speak at Pacific on April 2.
Brandon Stanton, a 30-year-old New York City photographer, captures the lives of the people around him. The subjects of his portraits confess joy, pain, excitement, suffering, and love, simply because Stanton asks them questions about their lives. He creates connection with his readers through an emphasis on humanity.
The University of the Pacific Powell Scholars have chosen Stanton to receive the Powell Emerging Leader Award and have invited him to speak at Pacific on April 2 at 6 p.m. in Long Theatre. He will share about his project and his bestselling book inspired by the blog. The lecture will include a question and answer period using questions previously submitted by students and the public. A reception book signing will preceed the lecture at 4:30 p.m. in the Alex and Jeri Vereschagin Alumni House. Copies of the book will be available at the event for purchase.

The Powell Emerging Leader Award was established in 2011 by the Powell Scholars in an effort to recognize young people who embody the values and mission of the Powell Scholars Program and have already made an extraordinary difference.
