Former Pacific First Lady Pat Atchley passed away

Patsy Limbaugh Atchley, wife of former University of the Pacific President Bill Atchley, passed away on Oct. 8 at the age of 80.

The Greenville, SC, resident was born June 27, 1934, in Bloomfield, Mo., and attended Miss Hicky's secretarial school in St Louis. Upon graduation, she went to work for the FBI in St. Louis.

She married Bill Atchely in 1954 and moved to Rolla, Mo., where her husband worked at the University of Missouri at Rolla. Most of her adult life was spent as the First Lady of Clemson University (1979-1985); University of the Pacific (1987-1995); and South East Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo. (1998-1999).

Throughout her life, she was an active community volunteer in various nonprofits, and more recently was an active participant with the local hospice of Murrells Inlet, SC. She was known to her many friends and family as a woman of strong character with a big personality.

A private memorial service will be held in Clemson, SC, and a memorial service in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
