Announcements

Canvas is now live

Jul 7, 2015

As part of Pacific's commitment to support faculty, I am pleased to announce on behalf of the LMS Implementation Task Force and the Provost that Canvas is now live at canvas.pacific.edu. You many also access it at InsidePacific, right next to the Sakai link. Fall courses are loaded along with any registered students and assigned instructors. These courses are "unpublished."

Be assured that Sakai remains available through June 30, 2016.

With Canvas now live, our next steps are to migrate courses from Sakai to Canvas and to provide the best training opportunities for faculty. The migration is scheduled by school or College, and will rollout over the next year. The Center for Teaching and Learning staff will reach out to you to determine which courses you want migrated and assist you with getting your content prepared in Canvas.

In the meantime, you can get started with training right away:

•  Canvas Camps every Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., in Classroom 2 in the Library, beginning July 9.  These are drop-in, open labs for faculty to ask questions and get assistance from CTL staff.
•  To access the "How to Use Canvas" course, please go through the CTL LibGuide.
•  Canvas Resources can be found at the CTL LibGuide. You will find Canvas guides, a link to lynda.com training, and more.
•  Each school and department will receive a 2-hour training as courses are migrated. The CTL will reach out to schedule those trainings.
•  The CTL will offer short workshops on the features of Canvas, including MyMediaSite and WebEx.

Additionally, from 1-3 p.m. on July 20, Canvas representatives will provide a two-hour basics training via video conference. Please register if you are interested in attending by completing this form: http://goo.gl/forms/TAUPLco8tD.

I strongly encourage you to build your expertise and take advantage of the CTL staff support to effectively use Canvas. They can assist whether you are just uploading a few documents, or wish to create a hybrid or fully-online course.

You can reach CTL staff at ctl@pacific.edu or by contacting Director Terri Johnson at tjohnson3@pacific.edu.

Best regards,

Vernon C. Smith, Ph.D.
Vice Provost, Distributed Learning
