Homecoming parade grand marshal revealed

Pacific rugby team named 2015 Homecoming parade grand marshal
Oct 6, 2015

The Homecoming committee announced this week that the Pacific rugby team was selected to serve as grand marshal for the 2015 Homecoming parade.

Pacific's Rugby Club used their Tiger tenacity to become national champions this spring when they scored a comeback victory against Northern Colorado. They fought as underdogs through the ranks of sectional and divisional battles all the way to the national championship, triumphing over schools with long established teams.

The team's first match on the national stage, the battle was one for the books. Both teams got off to a slow start and, going into the half, Northern Colorado had pulled ahead, looking to secure a win. But the Pacific players  came back fired up and seized a 39-32 win to take the championship.

The victory was even more impressive given this club team has only been practicing since 2008 and had a very tough year in 2013-14.

"To finally bring something back for all the alumni and everyone who has put in hard work feels so great," said Captain Mike Jimenez '15 in a televised interview with Good Day Sacramento after the victory.

Pacific spirit was high as they returned to campus for a celebration and reception at the Baun Student Fitness Center where their success has been commemorated with a banner and display.

"We're so proud of these young men and the way the team pulled together," said President Pam Eibeck. "They represent the very best of University of the Pacific. They're committed, ready to pull together and do their best and reach success against all odds."

Congratulations to all.

Don't miss it! The Homecoming parade will be Saturday, Oct. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. on the Miracle Mile. Find out more at Pacific.edu/Homecoming.
