Construction advisory for Larry Heller Drive beginning Monday, Dec. 5

Dec 5, 2016

To the Stockton Campus:

Construction has begun on the clubhouse for the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center and Janssen-Lagorio Performance Center, the next phases in an ambitious, long-term plan to create a state-of-the-art athletics district on University of the Pacific's Stockton Campus.   As part of the project, four trees in the McCaffrey Grove area between the Janssen-Lagorio Gymnasium and the Alex G. Spanos Center will be removed starting Monday, Dec. 5, about 7:30 a.m.

The tree removal should take two to three days and may result in some traffic impact along Larry Heller Drive. Traffic control will be provided by the contractor when the tree removal equipment enters the road. Tree removal equipment and activities will be limited to the Janssen-Lagorio Performance Center construction zone and are not expected to block sidewalks.

Plans are underway to recycle the logs. Ideas include using the bark for mulch in the new landscaping around the center or in the Ted and Chris Robb Garden. Artists have been consulted to explore using the tree trunks to create artwork for the McCaffrey Grove. Replacement trees will be planted on campus as soon as feasible to mitigate the loss of the existing trees and to ensure the Stockton Campus retains its renowned tree canopy.
