Academic Plan Update: Health Initiative Conversations Begin

Office of the ProvostFeb 24, 2016

One goal of Pacific's Academic Plan, Crossing Boundaries for Academic Excellence, is to build Pacific as a Three-City University in four strategic areas: liberal arts, water/environmental stewardship, health, and new graduate programs on the Sacramento campus. Much work is ongoing in each of these areas

Recently, an interdisciplinary group of faculty and administrative members began working around the theme of "health promotion and individual and community wellness" and identified and produced reports on:

  • future trends in health and wellness promotion for individuals and communities;
  • potential opportunities for synergy between academic units in support of this theme; and
  • programs offered by our competitors and peer institutions that may have similar goals

The group used this information at a January mini-retreat to guide discussions about Pacific's existing strengths, future health-related trends, notable gaps, and directions for Pacific's future leadership in health. The group now seeks broader input on how Pacific can best accomplish the goals of a health and wellness initiative through a series of conversations with faculty.

Faculty members are invited to join one of the following two conversations:

Wednesday, February 24, 4 - 6 p.m.
Vereschagin Alumni House Board Room
Refreshments provided

Thursday, February 25, 11:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Library Community Room (Stockton)
Lunch provided

Dr. Rory Hume, formerly the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Health Affairs of the University of California system and now a senior consultant for the Atlanta-based Academy for Academic leadership, will facilitate these discussions. Refreshments will be provided on Wednesday and lunch on Thursday.

So that we can plan for refreshments and lunch accordingly, please RSVP here as soon as possible to join the conversations. You can contact Sandy Evans at sevans3@pacific.edu for event information.
