The Provost is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tamara Phelan, Professor of Physical Therapy in the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, as the new Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness, effective July 15, 2016.

This is a key role in Academic Administration, responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the program review process and helping lead Pacific's institutional reaccreditation process. It is a 0.5 FTE academic/administrative position, reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Strategy and Educational Effectiveness, for a three-year appointment. With preparations now beginning for Pacific's next reaccreditation in 2018-19, the Assistant Vice Provost will play a vital role in University-wide efforts to conduct the institutional self-study.

Dr. Phelan was involved in accreditation activities in the Department of Physical Therapy and has played a key role in developing, presenting and facilitating workshops for faculty on student learning outcomes throughout the state.  She has presented related work at WSCUC (WASC) regional conferences and has published work aimed at educating faculty on specialized and regional accreditation.

Dr. Berit Gundersen held this position prior to her appointment to the position of Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. Dr. Gundersen's work in educational effectiveness included supporting programs conducting program review and playing a key role in maintaining Pacific's successful WSCUC accreditation. The Provost would like to thank Dr. Gundersen for her service and accomplishments while in this position.
