Pacific appoints new vice president for marketing and communications
Marge GreyMargery L. Grey was appointed Pacific's next associate vice president for marketing and communications following a nationwide search. She begins the new post on March 21. Grey comes to Pacific from the chancellor's office for the California State Universities, where she has served as assistant vice chancellor for communications for the 23-campus CSU system - the largest university system in the country - since 1999. She led, integrated and aligned the work of the campuses in marketing, branding, web, digital and social media, video and print publications, outreach and special events to increase stakeholder support through measurable programs. In her new role, Grey will serve as a member of President Eibeck's leadership team and as a strategic adviser to the university.  She is charged with leading and advancing the branding, marketing and communications strategy and programs for the university. Rita Peterson is a new legal office coordinator in the Office of the General Counsel.

Shanna EllerShanna Eller, sustainability director, has accepted a position at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, as the Sustainability Coordinator for Operations. Her last day at Pacific is March 11. Eller's work at Pacific has resulted in solid operational programs, a beautiful garden, a strong Sustainability Project Investment Fund, impressive rankings in Sierra Cool Schools and the Princeton Green Guide, and, more recently, major progress in how sustainability will be integrated into Pacific's academic programs. Kendra Bruno, sustainability coordinator, will continue the work of the Sustaining Pacific program and coordinate all programming planned for the Stockton campus the remainder of this academic year.
There will a farewell reception for Eller at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, in the Regents Dining Room on the Stockton Campus to thank her for the work that Eller has done to establish sustainability programs at Pacific, and to wish her well in her new position. Academic Division

Verena Boga was promoted to behavior analyst II in the College of the Pacific Department of Psychology.

Lloyd Curtis transferred to the position of instructional designer in Distributed Learning.

James Fortner was promoted to business manager in the Center for Professional and Continuing Education.

Katrina Jaggears was hired as employee program services coordinator for the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education-Sacramento Campus

John Linhares was promoted to administrative assistant III in the University Main Library.

Karina Martinez is a new financial aid counselor I in the Office of Financial Aid.

Rebecca Perry was rehired in the position of alumni relations coordinator for Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Elizabeth Quijano was promoted to admission services coordinator in the Office of Admission.

Kathryn Van Winkle is a new administrative assistant I in the Office of the Provost.

Michelle Fang transferred to the position of dental assistant at the Department of Clinic Administration at Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Shanel Wright-Hooks transferred to the position of administrative assistant for Academic Affairs at the San Francisco Campus.

Hung Dang, recently appointed as Pacific's assistant provost for admission and university registrar, has resigned from the university. The provost will initiate searches for an assistant vice provost of admission within the next 60 days and for a university registrar in the fall. An experienced interim registrar will be brought in to provide oversight and leadership for the Office of the Registrar until a search can be completed in the next academic year.

Terri Johnson, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), has announced that she will resign from Pacific at the end of March.  Provost Pallavicini acknowledged Johnson for having been key to the successful reinvigoration of the CTL. In addition to building a strong team to support faculty, she provided leadership in the Course Redesign Workshops and the rollout of Canvas, including the migration, support and weekly Canvas Camps for faculty. Johnson plans to return to the family's cabin in northern Wisconsin. The provost is initiating a nationwide search for a new CTL director following the announcement of Johnson's resignation. A search committee is being formed and the chair will be announced soon. Vernon Smith, vice provost for distributed learning, will provide oversight for the CTL in the interim.

Update on Dean searches

Conservatory of Music
Provost Maria Pallavicini has asked Dan Ebbers to extend his term as interim dean for one year. The provost would like to thank the university community, the Conservatory of Music faculty, staff and students, and the search committee for their participation in this search, which we will resume in the next few months.

Gladys L. Benerd School of Education
The search committee has met and selected a list of candidates for campus visits. Information will be coming soon on the candidates and a schedule of their campus visits. This search committee is chaired by School of Engineering and Computer Science Dean Steven Howell.

Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry
A pool of candidates is being formed. This search committee is chaired by Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Dean Phillip Oppenheimer.

Development

Georgette Hunefeld, director of principal and leadership giving, and Tom Sasser, director of development for major gifts, have new project assignments within their current roles. Hunefeld will help support Student Affairs-focused fundraising initiatives and Sasser will help support Library-related initiatives. 

Christopher Ortega '07, '10, is the new alumni relations coordinator in Alumni Relations, where he will focus primarily on reunions. Ortega is a double alumnus of College of the Pacific and the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education. He was very involved as a Pacific Ambassador and Resident Assistant and served in an interim role as the coordinator of new student and family programs. Prior to his role in student life, Ortega served as the assistant director of orientation programs at USC for two years, and as a resident director at Loyola Marymount for three years.     

Holly Stanco has been promoted to senior assistant dean for advancement in recognition of expanded duties. She will be providing development leadership for both the Conservatory of Music and the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education. Stanco has served as the lead fundraiser for Pacific's conservatory since 2009.  During her six-and-a-half years leading the efforts of the conservatory's major gift work, 22 new endowment funds and nine new programmatic funds have been created.

Business and Finance

Anabela Bettencourt is the new assistant director for Student Business Services.

Sophen Kann and Vijendra Swamy are new custodians, group I, in Physical Plant.

Kimberly Lynn is a new treasury analyst in the Treasury Department

Samuel Thompson is a new student business services specialist in Student Business Services.

Ernesto Lara is a new environmental health and safety specialist in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at the San Francisco Campus.

Robert Henry was promoted to bookstore manager at the Sacramento Campus.

Pacific Technology

Zoya Bukhari is a new budget analyst in Pacific Technology.

Adrian Maceiras is a new employee desktop computer support and audio/visual technician in Pacific Technology.

Student Life

Matthew Deville and Tony Tran are new public safety officers in Public Safety.

Jesus Margarito transferred to the position of student support services specialist in Student Support Services.

(Editor's note: the following item is a corrected version of a previous announcement) Sandra Mahoney's position has been reclassified as executive director of planning and assessment in the Division of Student Life.

Trang Nguyen is a new medical assistant in Pacific Health Services.

Athletics

Pacific Athletic Director Ted Leland announced March 3 that Head Basketball Coach Ron Verlin and Assistant Coach Dwight Young are leaving their jobs at Pacific, effective immediately. Read more>>
