Tree removal scheduled for this weekend

Mar 8, 2016

Many of you may have noticed that a few the sequoia trees located near Hand Hall and the President's Office have not been looking healthy, and some have not produced any greenery this spring. After careful monitoring and attempts to rejuvenate the trees over the past months, physical plant has determined that the trees are no longer viable and must now be removed for safety reasons.    Pacific grounds crew is closely monitoring other trees throughout the campus and continues to plant new trees to help maintain the campus beauty even as they manage the process of having to remove other trees for safety reasons.

To ensure the highest degree of safety possible, the trees that have not responded to extra care are tentatively scheduled for removal over the student Spring Break next week when there will be less activity on campus. The sequoia tree in front of the President's Office and in front of Hand Hall are scheduled for removal Saturday, March 12. Please be mindful of the tree crews if you are traveling on Atchley Way near Hand Hall or in the vicinity of the President's Office during this time, as there may be sidewalk closures or temporary traffic interruptions.
