Happy Birthday Pacific - 165 Years and countingUniversity of the Pacific, founded July 10, 1851, is California's first chartered institution of higher learning
On its 165th birthday, University of the Pacific celebrates a pioneering heritage as California's first chartered institution of higher learning, with proud traditions of innovation, community involvement, experiential learning, exceptional professional preparation and close relationships between faculty and students that continue to this day.
Pacific's pioneering spirit is reflected in its many "firsts" - the first co-educational campus in California (1870); the first Conservatory of Music in the West (1878); first four-year private university in the Central Valley (1924); first to offer a four-year guarantee and matching Cal Grants; to name a few. That spirit continues to provide impetus as the University seeks new innovations to meet the educational needs of today and prepare for the next generation of students.
Strong academic and professional preparation built on a broad liberal arts foundation, hands-on experiential learning, close faculty student interactions and a value for responsible citizenship complete a tried and true formula that has put Pacific graduates on a path to career and life success for 165 years....and counting
