Letter From the Dean – Fall 2016

Oct 21, 2016

The fall semester is in full swing here at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, but we're still basking in the memories of some wonderful events from the summer. We held our annual Scholarship Ceremony on July 12. This year a record number of scholarships were awarded to our pharmacy students. There were 238 individual scholarships awarded from 83 different endowed and immediate needs scholarships. The total amounted to approximately $450,000.  Seventeen of those scholarships honored faculty. Through the wonderful generosity of our donors, student recipients are awarded funds based on their merit, leadership and commitment to community.  Take a look.

In August, we witnessed a sudden reinvigoration of our campus as the orientation programs for pharmacy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology brought hundreds of new students to Stockton to begin their professional curricula. This year each one of our professional programs is fully-enrolled, creating a vibrant experience for all. The hustle and bustle of the first month of school is energizing and exhausting all at the same time.

Our corporate partners have generously provided our pharmacy students with many opportunities for networking and mentoring, as well as professional and social events. Many thanks to Rite Aid, CVS Health and Albertsons/Safeway for hosting these events and enhancing our student's orientation to the profession.

The middle of September was marked by watching our new students become fully fledged members of the Pacific family. The White Coat Ceremony for each of our doctoral programs is a special and memorable occasion for both the students and their families. With nervous excitement, each student vows to devote their time and attention to delivering optimal patient care.  We are grateful for our partnerships with Kaiser Permanente and Rite Aid and for their generous sponsorships of our white coat ceremonies.

I look forward to an exciting year ahead and connecting with you at our upcoming events.
