Regents Available as Guest Speakers
In addition to visiting classes this semester, many of Pacific's Regents have expressed willingness to serve as guest lecturers. If you would like a Regent to be a guest lecturer in your class, please check with your Dean's office for the list of Regents willing to lecture and their topics.  Once you've identified a Regent and topic, please use this form to submit a request to your Dean. You will need to provide the course title, dates and location of the class, and a short summary that includes the requested topic of the presentation, how this topic aligns with the course, learning goals and objectives for the presentation and the course syllabus. Your Dean will review and forward the request to the Vice President and Secretary to the Board of Regents, who will contact the Regent to determine availability.

Interdisciplinary Seminars Start Next Month
S3@Pacific: The Science Seminar Series at Pacific is a concerted effort to promote the knowledge of science, to highlight the intersection among disciplines and to foment interactions between different departments, college and schools within the University. The goal is for students, faculty and other interested members of the Pacific community to be introduced to research in diverse bioscience disciplines by the scientists themselves and have an opportunity to network with speakers.

The first seminar is scheduled for February 7, and will feature Dr. Peter Havel from University of California, Davis. The title of his talk is "Endocrine and Metabolic Effects of Consuming Sugar-Sweetened Beverages: Preclinical and Clinical Studies".

The remaining seminar dates appear below. Information coming soon on presentation topics.

Faculty Development Opportunities
I would like to make you all aware of two institutional memberships that we have that provide a great deal of information and faculty support: National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) and Academic Impressions (AI).

NCFDD
NCFDD has multiple "core curriculum webinars" including "How to Align Your Time with Your Priorities" and "How to Develop a Daily Writing Practice".  This semester, multi-week and guest expert webinars include "Writing through Writer's Block: Turning Your Research Obstacles into Insights" and "How to work with Academic Editors".

See a full calendar of events here. You must be registered as a member of NCFDD under Pacific's institutional membership. To register for membership, click here

AI
Great news! We have an institutional membership with Academic Impressions that gives everyone at University of Pacific unlimited access to both live and on-demand trainings. You can access them all in the member dashboard. Here's how to get started:

  • Navigate to the Academic Impressions website
  • Login with your @pacific.edu email
  • Use the AI Pro Code: AIPRO_DBB554 (everyone at University of Pacific uses the same code)
  • Click here for instructions on registering for events and accessing recorded events
