NAICU issues talking points in response to tax reform proposals

Nov 14, 2017

Last week, the House and Senate finance committees released their tax reform proposals, which would impose a 1.4% excise tax on endowment returns for private colleges and universities with an endowment more than $250,000 per student.

While University of the Pacific does not meet that criteria today, it is possible that the federal government might increase its rate and broaden its scope over time once the tax is in place - a point writer George Will makes in his recent column. This would undermine the impact of endowed gifts from Pacific's donors.

In response, faculty, staff and students are encouraged to write to our Senators and Representatives using this set of talking points developed by the National Association for Independent College and Universities (NAICU).
