Pacific’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble to perform in Carnegie Hall

Mar 28, 2018

Pacific's 55-member Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform in Carnegie Hall in early 2019 during a featured concert at the New York Wind Band Festival in New York City.

"The ensemble members embody the very best of Pacific's student-centered mission through learning engagement and a uniquely powerful esprit de corps that serve as a positive influence in the life of each member and the community," said Eric Hammer '73, director of Pacific bands.

Peter Witte, the Conservatory's dean, credited Hammer with the ensemble's broad success.

"Pacific's Symphonic Wind Ensemble is led by Professor Hammer and known nationally as an accomplished and caring band," said Witte. "We can't wait to spend our 2019 spring break making music in Carnegie Hall."

Festival organizers, Benicia-based World Projects, invited the Symphonic Wind Ensemble to be the "showcase ensemble" to perform March 13, 2019, in the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. The concert will be shared with the Wind Symphony from Concordia University Chicago. Past invitees have included groups from Indiana University, University of Wisconsin and University of Florida.

Earlier in the tour the ensemble will also play in a shared concert with Brooklyn Wind Ensemble of New York City and ensemble members will meet Pacific alumni who have become professional performers.

The ensemble has a long history of performing top-quality music and its members have served as university ambassadors in previous invited performances at the Western International Band Clinic, the Western States Collegiate Wind Band Festival, the California All State Music Education Conference, and on tours throughout the West.

Before the Carnegie performance tour, the ensemble will perform 7:30 p.m. March 5, 2019, in the Faye Spanos Concert Hall on Pacific's Stockton Campus and will also take part in a recording session in the San Francisco Bay Area being produced by Pacific's Music Industry Program and Pac Ave Records.
