Pacific Men's Basketball - Tigers Sign Coley And Kelley To Letters Of Intent

Nov 17, 2009
University of the Pacific Head Men's Basketball Coach Bob Thomason has announced the signing of two student-athletes to letters of intent. Chuck Coley and Khalil Kelley will enter Pacific for the 2010-11 season.

Coley is a 6-7 small forward from West Palm Beach, Fla. He is a sophomore at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kan. The Conquistadors are off to a 4-1 start in 2009-10. Coley is averaging 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 58.6 percent from the field. He also leads the team with 13 blocks. In Dodge City CC's 104-61 win over York College, Chuck had his best effort of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. In his first year at Dodge City CC, he scored 10.0 points per game along with pulling down 6.0 rebounds per contest. Coley played his high school ball at John I Leonard High School in West Palm Beach, Fla. As a senior, Chuck earned Palm Beach Post All-Area Honorable Mention honors.

Kelley is a 6-7 1/2 power forward from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. He's a senior at Los Osos High School. He averaged 9.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game as a junior. Last year he scored in double figures 12 times. A force on the defensive end, Khalil blocked 2.5 shots per game and had 20 steals on the season. His best game as a junior was a 33 point, 19 rebound performance in an 87-84 victory over Rancho Cucamonga HS on Jan. 20, 2009. After his junior season, he was named to the HS GameTime Inland Empire All-Area Boys Basketball Team. The Grizzlies open up the 2009-10 season on Nov. 24.

"Chuck is a very athletic small forward that is a good scorer and perimeter shooter," said Thomason. "With his strength and quickness, he could be a great defensive player. We expect him to contribute to the program right away. Khalil is a very athletic power forward. He runs the floor well and scores around the basket. With added strength and experience, he will be a force in the Big West."
