Pacific Men's Tennis: Tigers Find Success At Rebel Classic
Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) was the only Tiger to pick up two singles wins on the day. He defeated Patrick Schimmelbaur of Northern Arizona 2-0 (6-3, 6-1) before moving onto round two of flight one competition where he met and defeated UNLVs Luca Barlocchi 2-0 (6-3, 6-4).
After dropping his first match to Arizonas Andres Corrasco 2-0 (6-2, 6-4), Fernando Ristow (Curitaba, Brazil) held on to take down Adrian Simon of Idaho 2-0 (6-2, 7-5).
In flight two, Vergerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) took the first set of his match against Cal Polys Jordan Bride before Bride rebounded and took the second 6-4. The two battled back and forth, but Veskimagi grabbed the third set 6-4 to win the match. He would eventually fall to Arizonas Geoff Embry 2-0 (6-2, 6-4) in round two.
Finding success in doubles play, Veskimagi and Ristow partnered up to take down Arkansas Dmitry Lebedev and Matt Walters 8-4.
The tournament is set to continue through Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Rebels Fertitta Tennis Complex. Schools scheduled to compete include UNLV, Arkansas, Arizona, Cal Poly, Idaho, Northern Arizona and Fresno Pacific.
