Pacific Men's Volleyball: Pacific Finishes Third at USC Fall Tournament

The Pacific mens volleyball team defeated Long Beach State twice on its way to a third place finish at the USC Fall Tournament Saturday. The Tigers fell to eventual tournament winner USC in the semi-finals.

 

Match one found the Tigers outlasting Long Beach State 2-1. Pacific dropped the first set 28-30 before rebounding to take the final two sets 30-24 and 15-14.

 

Against host USC the Tigers fought hard but would fall 2-0 (30-21, 31-29), sending them to the third place consolation game.

 

Sophomore Nicolaas Schenk (Kamuela, Hawaii) stepped up for Pacific in the teams second meeting with Long Beach. He finished with eight kills and no errors. Also finishing with eight kills was senior Jason Borchin (Roseville, Calif.). The Tigers took Long Beach 2-0 (30-15, 30-20) to earn their finish in the tournament.

 

USC went on to defeat Stanford in the championship game.

 

Pacific is not back in action again until the 2010 when they face UC Santa Cruz at home on Jan. 8. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
