Women Water Polo: Myles Leads Tiger Offense, Pacific Defeats CSU Monterey Bay 15-7
Pacific jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 7:34 mark on a goal from freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand). The Tigers extended their lead to two with back-to-back goals from Myles and junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas). Cal State Monterey Bay was held scoreless until the 2:56 point when the Otters were able to find the back of the net but Myles countered 15 seconds later to put Pacific up 4-1. Myles closed out the quarter notching her fourth goal with 0:02 left on the clock.
To start the second quarter Catherine Collett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) extended Pacific's lead by five, notching a goal at the 7:22 spot. The Otters notched their lone goal of the quarter with 3:26 left in the half to make it a 6-2 contest. Sophomore Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) and Myles ended the quarter tallying goals at the 2:25 and 0:44 spots respectively.
Leading 8-3 entering the third quarter, juniors Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) and Bridget Geck(Huntington Beach, Calif.) found the back of the net to give the Tigers a seven point advantage. With 6:06 on the clock Cal State Monterey Bay notched a goal to make it a 10-4 game but Kosich responded 16 seconds later to help the Tigers regain the seven point lead. Cal State Monterey Bay notched goals at the 4:56 and 3:26 spots to make it an 11-6 game at the end of the third. In her final quarter, freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded four saves in the cage.
In the final frame Myles found the back of the net to score Pacific's 12th goal of the contest at the 5:50 mark but the Otters responded at the 5:10 spot for a score of 12-7. Junior Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) scored a goal with 4:16 left on the clock to put the Tigers up 13-7. Cal State Monterey Bay notched its final goal at the 3:04 spot to cut Pacific's lead to five. The Tigers ended regulation finding the back of the net on back-to-back goals from Geck and sophomore Brittany Lloyd (Orinda, Calif.) for the 15-7 final score.
The Tigers were led by freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) who notched five goals in the contest. FreshmanBrooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded 10 saves and two steals through three quarters while junior Kailee Bucknum(Mission Viejo, Calif.) had one save in the fourth quarter.
Pacific continues action at 4 p.m. at the Santa Clara Invite against host Santa Clara.
