2009 Sustainability Accomplishments

January:

University Sustainability Coordinator position is established by President DeRosa who appoints Carol Brodie as the first University Sustainability Coordinator

March:

Residence for Earth & Environmental Living and Learning [REELL] conducts Water Awareness Week raising awareness about water-related issues and encouraging students to stop purchasing water in plastic bottles

April:

ASuop establishes the position of Sustainability Coordinator and Martha Valadez is appointed as the first Sustainability Coordinator

University "Sustaining our Pacific" web site is developed and goes on-line

Academic Council endorses charge and membership for the University Sustainability Committee

May:

President DeRosa appoints nine individuals to the University Sustainability Committee with students, faculty and staff representatives from each of the three campuses and all four University Divisions

August:

All entering undergraduate students participate in the two-day Mountain Ocean Valley Experience (MOVE) and receive reusable water bottles from ASuop and the Pacific Alumni Association

September:

Pacific becomes a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)

Construction begins on the new Chambers Technology Center designed to meet LEED Silver standards

Used battery disposal procedure implemented by Physical Plant on the Stockton campus

October:

The Board of Regents approves a resolution requiring all new construction to meet LEED Silver certification standards

University becomes a member of the United Stated Green Building Council

University encourages carpooling by providing ride-share information, pledge forms and carpool registration

November:

University-Wide University Learning Objectives approved - Sustainability is one of the seven learning objectives for all Pacific students

Sustainability Commitment/Policy statement endorsed by the Academic Council and Staff Advisory Council
