Free and open to the public, we will have guest speakers every Friday speak about different issues underlying the current global food system. Fair Trade is a certification program that works to ensure a standard of living for small farm owners and workers in international countries. Friday April 4th, we will discuss the intricacies of purchasing through the lenses of Bon Appetit (international food provider) and our purchasing department on campus. April 11th, we will have Bing Kirk of Jesus Mountain Roastery, a local roastery, and Aaron Lange of LangeTwins Winery of Lodi, CA. Both are small producers working in their fields to ensure the highest standards are met in regards to their product and environmental impacts. LangeTwins Winery is Green Certified through Lodi's Sustainability Certification program. April 18th, we will have Dr. Camilla Saviz and Dr. Ron Hoverstad of Pacific discussing what it means to become a Fair Trade University. We will also have Selina Schweitzer from UC Davis Fair Trade Coalition come and speak about the challenges UC Davis has faced to become a Fair Trade University. Our last Forum will have Eric Firpos of Boggs Tract Farm discussing their CSA and direct purchasing of produce by consumers. As well as a representative from the Farmers' Market Alliance.
