Welcome to the Pacific Humanities Center
Focused on faculty, students, and the local community, the Humanities Center promotes the value of art, music, theatre and film, as well as the traditional humanities disciplines—classical and religious studies, philosophy, literature and languages.
The Humanities Center sponsors programs that deepen and enrich our experience of the humanities in many contexts. Through these programs we support:
- Collaboration among different departments and disciplines
- Undergraduate and faculty research
- Foreign exchange programs and study abroad
Another aim of the Humanities Center is to increase the visibility of work in the humanities across the University and in the local community. The Center supports programs and outreach opportunities that highlight the importance of the humanities in public life.
New Pacific Humanities Scholars Program
If you are a high-achieving student who gravitates toward the humanities disciplines, we encourage you to consider applying for the unique Pacific Humanities Scholars program. The program offers an accelerated but enriching educational experience that allows students majoring in the humanities to complete their undergraduate degree within three years, although students may opt to complete the program in four years. Through the program, Pacific Humanities Scholars enjoy the community of students and faculty who are passionate about the humanities. Classroom learning is supplemented with a range of extracurricular events, activities and projects that allow deeper exploration of the humanities disciplines than a traditional degree program affords.
