Calliope Literary Magazine
Calliope is the Literary and Arts magazine of Pacific. It is produced by the Humanities Center, through the collaborative efforts of students from the English and Visual Arts Departments under the mentorship of Professors Courtney Lehmann (English) and Brett DeBoer (Visual Arts).
Visual and literary artworks produced by students are juried for inclusion in the publication by a student editorial staff. A student design staff then visually organizes this content into a coherent magazine and takes it to press. The final results are unveiled each spring.
The entire printing costs are funded through generous donations from individuals and local businesses. If you would like to be a contributor or a participant in an upcoming issue please contact Professor Lehmann at 209.946.2609 or Professor DeBoer at 209.946.3097.
Calliope Wins APEX Award Two Years in a Row!
The 2009 issue of Calliope, titled "Five Minutes to Madalyn," received the 2010 APEX Award for Publication Excellence, earning the distinction for "One-of-a-Kind Publications." The APEX awards are sponsored annually by Communications Concepts, Inc. Calliope, which is designed, illustrated and written by students, was the only winning entry from a university and the only student-led publication to win in this category. In 2009, the previous year's issue of Calliope received an APEX Award of Excellence. Learn more from this College of the Pacific news story and this article in the Stockton Record.
