Professors helping student

Biology is the most popular major at Pacific. Unlike larger institutions that rely on graduate students to gather scientific data, the Biology Department at Pacific offers unparalleled research opportunities for undergraduate students, and close faculty-student interactions.

Know Your Professor

The Biology Department at Pacific is staffed by dedicated faculty members who value teaching and research, and who will advise and guide students throughout their academic programs. Our faculty members know their students on a first-name basis.

The broad scope of faculty interest presents opportunities for laboratory experiences in research covering a wide range of biological topics, including fruit flies, nematodes, spiders, mammalian cells, yeast, frogs, otters and dinosaurs.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Pacific's undergraduate program in Biology provides students with the intellectual foundation and practical skills to conduct original research in the area of biological sciences.

  • More than 70% of Biology majors engage in undergraduate research while at Pacific.
  • During the past 10 years, over 35 undergraduate students have co-authored significant research papers.

Modern Facilities and Lab Equipment

Biology students and faculty make themselves at home in our modern two-story, 56,000 square foot Biological Sciences building. The lower floor has state-of-the-art teaching facilities, and the upper floor is equipped with 15 modern research laboratories for faculty and students, as well as specialty equipment rooms.
