Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences Career Opportunities by Major or Concentration

Career Opportunities in Athletic Training

Students who complete the athletic training major and pass the BOC examination can find jobs in a variety of settings: secondary schools, colleges and universities, professional sports, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, military organizations, industrial and commercial companies, and the performing arts. Certified Athletic Trainers can be found almost anywhere people are physically active! Graduates may also work toward advanced degrees in areas related to athletic training or other allied health care fields including, but not limited to, physical therapy, physician assistant and nursing.

Career Opportunities in Health and Exercise Sciences

Students who complete the health and exercise concentration may find opportunities to work as fitness directors, in cardiac disease prevention-rehabilitation, or work toward advanced degrees in allied health sciences such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and medicine or sports medicine. Health and Exercise Sciences is, in part, a self-contained program as curricular support for Pacific’s Physical Therapy Graduate program.

Career Opportunities in Sport Management

Employment opportunities for students who complete the sport management concentration include, but are not limited to, event marketing, sales, management, hospitality, sponsorship, marketing and promotions, facility management, computer programming, statistics, financial management, community relations, athlete representation, and public relations. These specializations can be found in amateur and professional sport, corporations marketing through sport, sport tourism, community recreation, resorts, health and fitness centers, collegiate sport, casinos, stadiums, and arenas, to mention a few.

Career Opportunities in Sport Pedagogy

Completing the sport pedagogy concentration and subsequent single-subject teaching credential requirement permits students to pursue a teaching career in K-12 physical education, with the potential to teach other content areas in a variety of educational settings. This is true of the regular credential program in physical education as well as the more specialized concentration in coaching. The coaching concentration is not only recommended for sport pedagogy majors but also for other teaching majors who may be interested in coaching.
