Take a look at some interesting things my friends are doing for their home community in Western Kenya:  Friends of Yimbo , and the resource that motivates many of the contributions I make concerning what works best:  Aid Watch (worth consulting daily if you're involved with this kind of thing).

FOY asks the Yimbo community to work toward getting what it wants most, then provides a little help from its friends.  The first project is construction of a school library/community center.  The ground breaking was July 2008.  Some US friends will celebrate with the locals when the facility opens later this summer (2009).
