Student Achievements
Meet Our Outstanding Senior for 2011!
At the end of the year, each of the academic departments and interdisciplinary programs in the College of the Pacific honors a truly exceptional graduating senior or group of seniors with the Outstanding Graduate Award. This award is given to students who have not only earned a consistently high academic record, but who have also been actively involved in the discipline through activities, research, or special projects.
The outstanding senior in the Gender Studies program this year is Bethany Mackenzie. Bethany has excelled in all her classes and has been on the Deans Honor Roll for three years. She majored in English and knew early on that her passion and interest lay in Gender Studies. Bethany became an activist for social justice on campus and in the community. She is dedicated to making changes in society that will reduce gender discrimination and gender confinements.
She is also passionate about environmental issues and has applied for a position at the Sierra Club. Bethany served as a program assistant to the Gender Studies program and worked for three semesters at the GHES Center-the student lounge in the Wendell Phillips Center (WPC) that promotes gender and ethnic studies and the humanities. We wish her all the best in the future!
