Meet Our Outstanding Senior for 2010!

Outstanding SeniorMallori Gibson has specialized in sport management and completed her undergraduate degree in three and a half years with a strong GPA. In addition to her outstanding academic record, Mallori was an award-winning volleyball player at Pacific. She was twice honored as an all-conference athlete by the Big West and was also twice named to the conference’s all-academic team. During her senior year, she played an instrumental role in the team’s youth literacy efforts. Mallori also served as an intern at St. Mary’s High School and directed youth volleyball camps for the University. She spent the summer of 2009 studying global sport management in London and Paris. Following the completion of her Master’s degree, Mallori will either play professional volleyball in Europe or begin a career in college coaching or athletic administration.

Athletic Training Students on the Move

Katrina Trinidad '10, one of our senior Athletic Training students was granted a 2-year Athletic Training Graduate Assistantship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, working with their Women's Gymnastics and Softball teams beginning in fall 2010. UNC Chapel Hill is not only very well known for its athletic teams but also has one of the best Athletic Training programs in the nation and is one of the leading institutions in research for Athletic Training.

Kyle Burnett '09, a recent alumnus who has been working as an Athletic Training Intern for us this year was granted a 2-year Graduate Assistantship at Cal State University, Fullerton, potentially working with Men's Basketball or Baseball.

Juan Lopez '11, a junior and a first-year student in our clinical education program, was selected for a summer Athletic Training internship with the San Francisco 49ers NFL team. Juan will be working alongside one of our alumni, Manny Rivera, an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the 49ers. Juan will get the opportunity to work with the players in injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.

Keaton Ray '11, a junior and a first-year student in our clinical education program, was recently awarded a National Athletic Trainers Association Foundation Scholarship for $2300. This is a national scholarship awarded to Athletic Training students throughout the country who are successful academically as well as show excellent potential as a future Certified Athletic Trainer.

Four of our five graduating seniors-Anela LeCara, Darbi Scherer, Antonia Stavrianoudakis, and Katrina Trinidad-took their national Board of Certification exam to become Certified Athletic Trainers and all four of them passed the first time! This is an exciting accomplishment because this exam had a national first-time passing rate of only 43% for the 2009 - 2010 BOC exam year. So these students not only have their degrees in Athletic Training from Pacific, but they are now also Certified Athletic Trainers and ready to begin their careers!
