Gesine Gerhard's Biography

I grew up in Germany and got my MA in history from the University of Berlin.

The years in Berlin from 1989-1994 were the most exciting years of my life.

I was an eyewitness to the fall of the Berlin Wall (yes, I danced on the wall during those nights in November 1989…) and of the transformation of Berlin into (again) the metropolis of Central Europe.

After a one-year stay in Italy, I came to the United States for graduate school.

I finished my Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in 2000 and have been working at Pacific ever since.

In this country, I not only fulfilled my professional dreams of becoming a professor of history, but I also found the person with whom I want to spend the rest of my life with.

We now have a son and a daughter who are Stocktonians!
