Accomplishments
Dari E. Sylvester was selected as the recipient of the 2011 Adaljiza Sosa-Riddell Award for Exemplary Mentoring of Undergraduate Latino/a Students in Political Science. The award is given by the Committee on the Status of Latinos and Latinas within the American Political Science Association.
Jeffrey Becker participated in the panel "Political Visions of Belonging and Exclusion" at the 2011 Western Political Science Association Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Dari Sylvester was among the Pacific faculty selected by Pacific's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to attend the Ernest Boyer Executive Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Retreat in Asheville, North Carolina (sponsored by Western Carolina University). She will interface with other scholars to brainstorm ways to incorporate Boyer's four scholarships-discovery, integration, application, and teaching-into the institutional culture.
2011 Midwestern Political Science Association Conference (Chicago, IL, March 31-April 3):
- Jeffrey Becker presented "The Ambition of Moral Citizens: Belonging and the Limits of the Moral Community" as part of a panel on "Identity, Difference and Belonging."
- Keith Smith presented a paper with Dari Sylvester titled "The Choice to Vote by Mail: A Field Experiment" and chaired the panel "New Frontiers on Research on Electoral Reform." Keith Smith is also presenting a paper "Can Voters Be Educated about Voting?" co-authored with Dari Sylvester.

Political Science Professors Publish and Present
Dr. Dari Sylvester will have her article "Who Converts to Vote-By-Mail? Evidence From a Field Experiment" published in the forthcoming issue of Election Law Journal. The article is co-authored with Nathan Monroe, UC-Merced.
Dr. Michael Hatch contributed the chapter "The Politics of Global Warming in Germany" to a recently published book, The International Politics of Climate Change (Edward Elgar Publishing), edited by Aynsley Kellow and Sonja Boehmer-Christiansen.
Dr. Jeffrey Becker participated on a panel on "Arbitrary Power, Justice and Democracy" at the 2010 Association of Political Theory Conference in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Hatch Has Article Published on Role of Renewable Energy in Germany
