Community Re-Entry Program

Beginning in 1973, the Community Re-entry Program (CRP), housed within the Psychology Department at University of the Pacific, has successfully operated a University-based program using a behavioral treatment approach to assist adults diagnosed with chronic mental illness.  The program is supported through county and state funding sources and is staffed by an administrative team, graduate and undergraduate student interns, and peer-consumer staff.

The CRP Program provides adults diagnosed with chronic mental health problems individual behavioral intervention services.  Staff and interns are assigned to work one-on-one with individuals to help them learn adaptive behaviors in an effort to maintain their quality of life.

Internships are available for Pacific undergraduate students at the Martin Socialization Center, one of the programs housed under CRP

The Martin Gipson Socialization Center is a drop-in socialization center for adults diagnosed with mental illness (85-90 clients per day).  Common diagnoses of our clients include schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.  Our organization is designed to teach adults clients life-long leisure, recreational and pre-vocational skills, which facilitate increased integration back into the community.  University students, on-the-job trainees (clients), and volunteers (clients and students) staff the center.

Intern Responsibilities include:

  1. Teaching health & wellness classes to small groups of clients
  2. Working individually with clients to set & achieve personal goals
  3. Writing client progress notes on classes and treatment plans
  4. Building rapport/engaging with clients in social and recreational activities
  5. Assisting other programs as needed (Vocational and Forensic Services)
