2008: Reach and Reflect

The 2008 issue of Calliope, Pacific's student-produced literary and visual arts magazine, has received the 2009 APEX Award for Publication Excellence. The awards are sponsored annually by Communications Concepts, Inc. Calliope was the only publication designed, illustrated and written by students from over 3700 entries. The 2008 issue was titled "Reach and Reflect."

Calliope is produced by the Humanities Center, through the collaborative efforts of students from the English and Visual Arts Departments under the mentorship of Professors Courtney Lehmann (English) and Brett DeBoer (Visual Arts).

Visual and literary artworks produced by students are juried for inclusion in the publication by a student editorial staff. A student design staff then visually organizes this content into a coherent magazine and takes it to press. The final results are unveiled each spring, ending with ceremonies in both the English and Visual Arts Departments.

The entire printing costs are funded through generous donations from individuals and local businesses. If you would like to be a contributor or a participant in next year's issue please contact either Professor Lehmann at 209.946.2609 or Professor DeBoer at 209.946.3097.
