Department of Health and Human Services Appoints Sport Sciences Chair to Head Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Advisory Committee

Dr. Christopher SnellDr. Christopher R. Snell, Chair of the Department of Sport Sciences, has recently been appointed by Secretary Sebelius, Department of Health and Human Services, as Chair of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) Advisory Committee. The role of the committee is to make recommendations on CFS that will guide the government response to this important healthcare issue.

Other members of the committee include representatives from the Centers for Disease Control, Food and Drug Administration, Health Resource Services Administration, National Institutes for Health and Social Security Administration.

Dr. Snell's appointment as committee Chair is a tremendous accomplishment. It places the Pacific Fatigue Laboratory, Department of Sport Sciences and University of the Pacific in the national political spotlight and will play an integral role in shaping public policy. The appointment is a tribute to Dr. Snell's long-standing contribution of research and public service in this arena. He will preside over his first meeting on May 10 in Washington D.C.
