Pacific Debaters Make Strong Finish at NPDA Finals

Mar 26, 2010

Pacific's Speech and Debate Team traveled to Lubbock, Texas, to compete at the National Parliamentary Debate Association's national championship tournament from March 17 to March 23. Out of 60 schools and almost 200 hundred debate teams, Will Chamberlain and Sarah Hamid advanced all the way to the Quarter-Final Round (top eight teams in the tournament).  This is the farthest a Pacific Debate Team has ever advanced at the NPDA Championships.

Additionally, the team received their first speaker awards ever: Emily Sheldon was 11th out of over 350 speakers, and Sarah Hamid placed 12th.  Congratulations on this outstanding achievement! Sarah Hamid was also named an NPDA All-American.  She was one of only seven people in the entire nation to be designated an "All-American" this year. Additionally, Sarah was one of the three debaters selected for the exclusive U.S. team that debated against the Irish Debate Champions in an exhibition event at the tournament. As a squad, Pacific finished 9th in season-long sweepstakes and 11th in Tournament Sweepstakes.
