Student Representatives Are Valuable Resource for Prospective and New Students
The College of the Pacific's Student Representative program supports individual department efforts to reach out to prospective and new students. Student Reps, who are selected by the College's department chairs, serve as "ambassadors" to the departments. They typically have extensive involvement in the department and are knowledgeable about the programs it offers.
"Our Student Reps provide an authentic view of life at Pacific for prospective students," said Edie Sparks, Senior Associate Dean for the College. "They can really answer what it's like to be a student in a given department."
Each of the 18 academic departments in the College has one to six Student Reps, depending on the size of the department. The group is managed by Michael Quan, Student Representative Coordinator.
Student Reps are responsible for creating and maintaining the department's Facebook page, and they play a key role with prospective and admitted students. Responsibilities include:
Attending all Admissions events, such as Preview Day and Open House, and giving tours of the campus and their departments.
Contacting every admitted and confirmed student in their department to help answer questions.
Responding to queries prospective students post on the department Facebook page.
Student Reps often remain a point of contact for new students after they come to Pacific.
