University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music is the oldest music school on the West Coast. The Conservatory has more than lived up to the vision its founders set in 1878. We have built an exceptional record of educating outstanding musicians.
At Pacific we are extremely proud of our history and past accomplishments. We carry on that great tradition today as we prepare the musicians of tomorrow. The Conservatory offers degrees in all of the traditional performance fields, as well as in jazz and music education. It also has degree programs in the expanding fields of music therapy and music management, where we educate the leaders of the music industry for the 21st century.
As California’s first chartered institution of higher education, Pacific focuses on teaching the individual student, which serves as the core of a student-centered learning experience. The level of personal attention we give our students is unsurpassed. Recently, a parent wrote to me that one of our professors "commitment to his students exemplifies the best in higher education." This is the kind of praise that we strive for as educators. We want to provide the best instruction possible in a caring and supportive environment so that each student can reach his or her full potential. It is a principle of the entire University and something we live by every day in the Conservatory.
Music is a wonderful profession and also a difficult one, competitive and full of talented people. We feel that we should prepare our students for the real world of music, making sure that they will all be able to manage their own careers, set their own individual goals and achieve them. It is this mix of idealism and practicality that distinguishes Pacific.
Come see for yourself what a Pacific education can mean for you.
