M.Ed. students participate in the Video Microrehearsal program as a final teaching experience in their degree program. M.M. students may take the course (and fieldwork) as an elective. This is a unique training procedure designed and developed in the Department of Music Education, with a rich tradition since its inception in 1969. Through the faculty's ongoing research in this area, the course has continued to evolve. Candidates rehearse small ensembles and teach classes for brief periods, focusing on the development of specific rehearsal and teaching skills. Rehearsals and lessons are video-recorded and analyzed for skill development. Field teaching may include private and group lessons, general music, specialized music courses, and ensemble rehearsals. The course and fieldwork involve candidates full time for the first, five-week summer session.
