like pidgin (2007)
Strains of West-African songs from the Cameroon were circling around my mind. They are typically sung by young women. This is music without beginning, without end and without dramatic development, but diverse qualities of continuity are created through the lively use of musical patterns. This is what fascinated me time and time again. My composition consists of 15 "continuances", which I specifically do not refer to as movements. They are simply horizontally, sequentially ordered parts. Each "continuance" has it's own content and is not related to an overall compositional form. But I would also like to point out that the intervals in between the "continuances" are equally important. The silence of the intervals is closely related to the ordered sequence of "continuances". Four short melodic motifs, which are constantly repeated and doubled by multi-layering, form the basis of the compositional concept.
