Lynelle Frankforter Wiens
Lynelle Frankforter Wiens has been a faculty member at the University of the Pacific since 1978. She earned the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Nebraska where she was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board national honor societies. She went on to receive the Master of Music and the Doctor of Music degrees from Indiana University where she studied with Eileen Farrell, Margaret Harshaw, and Lucille Evans. Dr. Wiens has also studied with Martial Singher at the Music Academy of the West, and with Lynn Wickham in San Francisco.
Dr. Wiens has sung opera and solo recitals throughout the United States and in Canada. She was a national first-place winner in the MTNA competition in voice, winner of the Northern California NATSAA Competition, and was a finalist in the California Young Artist Competition.
A specialist in vocal science and medicine, Dr. Wiens has served on the faculties of the Symposium on the Care of the Professional Voice in Philadelphia, and the Pacific Voice Conference in San Francisco. She was the recipient of the Van L. Lawrence Fellowship which is awarded jointly by National NATS and the Voice Foundation in order to foster interdisciplinary education among laryngologists, voice scientists, speech pathologists and voice teachers.
Students of Dr. Wiens have gone on to become Young Artists/Apprentices with the San Francisco Opera Merola Program, Santa Fe Opera, Central City Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Opera San Jose, and the Boston University Opera Institute. Her former students have also sung with the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera (main stage), Palm Beach Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, Utah Festival Opera, Western Opera Theater, Opera Aperta, Lyric Opera Baltimore, Opera Western Reserve, Intermountain Opera, Townsend Opera, and Seoul (Korea) Contemporary Opera Company, among others.
