Pacific Bassoon Quartet performs at Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition
The Pacific Bassoon Quartet just returned from performing on a master class at the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Symposium in Oberlin, OH. Bassoonists from all over the country convened for the three days of master classes and recitals by leading bassoonists brought together by the international Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition. These performers and master class presenters included: Leonardo Dean, Venezuela’s Simon Bolivar Orchestra A; Monica Ellis, Imani Winds; Julie Gregorian, Baltimore Symphony; Sue Heineman, National Symphony; Kristin Wolfe Jensen, UT Austin; Ben Kamins, Rice University; Nicolasa Kuster, University of the Pacific; George Sakakeeny, Oberlin Conservatory; Barrick Stees, Cleveland Orchestra.
The Pacific Bassoon Quartet was selected to perform on the master class led by Monica Ellis of the Imani Winds, and received funding from the Pacific Undergraduate Conference Travel grant. The bassoon Performance Majors are: Vanessa Davies, Ross Edgar, Annalea Milligan, and Jessica Wiley. They performed Duarte’s Three Costa Rica Dances.
Their teacher, Nicolasa Kuster, is the co-Founder and co-Director of the MQVC, and also performed on the opening evening recital at the Symposium. One of the pieces she performed was Dreaming in Colours by composer HyeKyung Lee who was present to play the piano: the work was commissioned for the first MQVC in 2005.
