Single Subject (Secondary Education) Credential

The Single Subject Credential

Our program is the perfect place to move beyond the fundamentals of a subject and develop your skills as a teacher.  Throughout the program you will participate in courses and apprentice teaching in our partner schools.  Your experience in these schools will closely follow your development as a teacher.

Prospective teachers who plan to teach at the secondary level, grades 7 - 12, earn the Single Subject credential. The Single Subject credentials in Music and Physical Education allow prospective teachers to teach these subjects in grades K - 12.

Pacific's Single Subject Credential program offers the Single Subject Preliminary Teaching credential in the following subjects:

  • Art
  • Biological Sciences
  • English
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Geosciences
  • Music
  • Physics
  • Physical Education
  • Social Science
  • Spanish

In addition, prospective teachers may opt to earn one of two Foundational-Level Single Subject Credentials:

The Single Subject Credential in Foundational-Level Mathematics authorizes credential-holders to teach all mathematics courses up to and including Algebra II.

The Single Subject Credential in Foundational-Level General Science authorizes credential-holders to teach general, introductory, and integrated science (integrated science through Grade 8 only).

Earn a Degree and Credential in One Year.

Prospective students who are currently undergraduates or who already hold a bachelor's degree can select one of several pathways in which to complete a single subject credential. Flexible course schedule options are designed to meet students' varying needs, with options for full-time students as well as working professionals, who can complete the program in 12 months. Verification of Subject Matter Competence
California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET)
OR verification of an approved subject matter program from
the applicant's undergraduate institution

Verification of Negative TB Test
