Benerd School of Education Dean was honored as a woman of distinction.

Dr. Lynn Beck, Dean of the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education was recognized at the Women of Distinction luncheon held Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in Grace Covell Banquet Hall. This special recognition is part of Hear Us Roar, the University's campaign during Women's History Month.

Dr. Beck was nominated and selected for this prestigious award in recognition of her continuous efforts in promoting excellence in the classroom collaborating with numerous educational, community, and charitable organizations.

The following are some excerpts from the nomination application:

You are a woman of distinction. As an educational leader, you demonstrate excellence in energizing others to approach their work, their scholarship, or their community work with confidence. You are a caring, collaborative, thoughtful, fun-loving, and endearing leader. You are a creative, big idea person and a practical visionary. As a scholar, you have an impressive record of publications, advancing the concepts of ethics and caring in educational leadership and imperatives in shaping successful schools.

You are a woman of distinction. As an administrator, you are a strong communicator and builder of working relationships. As dean of the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education, you have demonstrated your skills in strategic planning, curriculum change, faculty development, and community outreach. You have collaborated with many community organizations, including Valley Mountain Regional Center, San Joaquin County Office of Education, Dugoni School of Dentistry, San Joaquin Delta College, the Bring Me A Book Foundation, to name just a few.

You are a woman of distinction. As a role model for women, you work hard, play hard, and inspire others to do their best by finding their strengths and energizing them. The children, who are not easily fooled, respond immediately to your warmth, respect and caring. You are a true teacher of life.
