Leadership Team

It is with great pleasure that I greet you as the new Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science. For me, assuming this role is the fulfillment of an exciting career that began at Pacific in 1983 when I was hired as a founding member of the fledgling Mechanical Engineering Department.  My career has literally taken me around the world and includes experiences in industry, government laboratories, academia, and most recently starting a new international University of Science, Engineering and Technology from the ground up in Botswana. My experiences and memories of Pacific are positive and I have a deep appreciation for the culture and heritage of Pacific and the School of Engineering and Computer Science.

While the culture and commitment of the School's faculty to its students has not changed since I left Pacific many years ago, I am excited at the other changes that have occurred.  The former Dean, Dr. Ravi Jain, is handing me a healthy school with state of the art facilities through the new John T. Chambers Technology Center, a new Master's program showing strong enrollment growth, many new faculty, new programs, and increasing level of scholarly activity from Pacific faculty and students.  I would like to acknowledge the hard work of former Dean Jain with strong support of the faculty, staff, students, industry partners, alumni and friends.  It's wonderful to be assuming leadership of a School with such a strong base.

In the short time that I've been at Pacific, I am convinced that the School is well positioned to become one of the top Engineering Schools in the nation.  I am both humbled and proud to have been chosen to lead the School in its next phase of growth and development.

Warm regards,

Steven Howell
Dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science
