Helpful Resume Information/Advice

  • Components of a resume:
    - Identification (name, address, phone number, email address)
    - Education
    - Experience (CO-OPS, internships, full-time/part-time jobs, campus employment)
    - Extracurriculars (community service, organizations, leadership)
    - Honors/awards
Skills and Abilities (technical/computer/industry-specific and languages)
  • Be sure to fix all typos, grammar errors, and formatting before turning it into an employer
  • Eliminate information that doesn't support your career objectives (unless that's your only experience)

  • An employer spends an average of 6 seconds looking at a resume

Interview Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Research the company beforehand and find out what they are all about
  • Ask insightful questions - employers love it when you ask them questions
  • Don't ask questions that have answers you can find on their website
  • Follow-up with an employer afterwards to thank them for the opportunity
  • Prepare your answers ahead of time for some common interview questions:
    - Tell me about yourself.
    - How would others describe you?
    - What are your strengths and weaknesses?
    - Why did you choose to go to Pacific?
    - What do you know about our company?
    - Tell me about a time when...(situational question)
