Society of Women Engineers Awards Banquet 2008On May 3, 2008 The Golden West Region (Region A) of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) held their annual awards banquet. The Pacific SWE section was recognized for Outstanding Section Participation in SWE National and Regional Events and was awarded the Collegiate Section Award – Small Section Highest Membership Retention. Additionally, Dr. Louise Stark, Associate Dean for the School of Engineering and Computer Science, was honored with the Region A Service Award.

The Outstanding Section Participation in SWE National and Regional Events recognizes the regular attendance of Pacific SWE section members at regional and national conferences and events as well as competing in the annual Team Tech Competition. Although this is the first year achieving top honors, Pacific SWE has been consistently recognized in this category over the last several years. The 15 member strong Pacific SWE section boasted 100 percent member retention last year, earning them the Collegiate Section Award – Small Section Highest Membership Retention award for the region

The Golden West Region Service Award recognizes and rewards members who have shown their enthusiasm and dedication to SWE's Mission through sustained and significant service and leadership. Dr. Louise Stark is the University of the Pacific SWE Collegiate Section's Faculty Advisor. As Faculty Advisor, she keeps the section connected with the school administration, provides leadership and guidance and creates opportunities for members of the section to grow professionally. She maintains the foundation of the section as membership and officers continually change, providing guidance to the new leaders who step forward by passing on her knowledge and experience. In her recommendation letter Elizabeth Hurley, Golden West Region Governor, said of Dr. Stark, "(She) is a passionate and dedicated SWE member. She continues to support the mission and values of SWE. Dr. Stark most certainly deserves the recognition and accolades of this award."
