Leslie Abitz '08

Leslie Abitz"As a diplomat, I use my SIS education on a daily basis," Leslie writes.  "Professionally, SIS helped me understand the complex international political system, and personally, my SIS education taught me how to function effectively in cross-cultural situations.  SIS also introduced me to a group of talented, hardworking classmates that were equally interested in the world around them."


Leslie is a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State.  She is currently the General Services Officer in Bern, Switzerland.  Previously, she has served as an Assistant General Services Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela (2013-2015) and as a Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador, El Salvador (2011-2013).   Leslie is a tenured, management-coned officer who has twice received the Department's prestigious Meritorious Honor Award for her outstanding contributions to U.S. missions abroad.   Prior to joining the State Department in 2010, Leslie work as the operations manager for The Loan Fund, a nonprofit microfinance organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Global Studies from the University of the Pacific (2008).  While at Pacific, Leslie worked as an independent contractor for the U.S. Embassy Malabo during her junior year abroad Equatorial Guinea.  She speaks fluent Spanish.  Leslie is a native of Wrightstown, Wisconsin.
