Why I Chose Pacific?:
Studying abroad with AFS in high school is the reason I chose to go to the School of International Studies at University of the Pacific. I had such an amazing experience in Ecuador with AFS that I wanted to find a university program that would continue to foster my international knowledge and awareness, while pushing me to embark on more international adventures. AFS prepared me for studying in SIS because I had international knowledge to build upon, but my education in SIS also helped me understand many of my experiences abroad in high school - like culture shock and some local political happenings.

Maya graduated from the School of International Studies in 2012 with a major in Development & Cultural Change and a minor in Anthropology. She was the recipient of the Richard Pedersen award for Academic Excellence in 2012. She studied abroad in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador Brazil. Maya and SIS professor Analiese Richard earned the Dreyfus Foundation Award for Student Research for their proposal Activism and Organization in Community Agriculture.
