Pacific's Dr. Ed Sherman named NCPA Outstanding Faculty Liaison of the Year
Dr. Ed Sherman was named the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Outstanding Faculty Liaison of the Year. This recognition is the first for the School and California in the ten year history of the award. Dr. Sherman has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Pharmacy Practice for more than 10 years in addition to his role as the faculty advisor to our NCPA student chapter. Under Dr. Sherman's guidance, our students were able to initiate a collaborative effort to send more than 1,000 letters to law makers in Sacramento to stop the devastating 10% cuts to community pharmacies. In addition, the Pacific NCPA chapter hosts the annual Women's Health Fair in celebration of Mother's Day.
Dr. Sherman oversees our students' participation in the Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan competition. In an effort to promote interest in independent community pharmacy ownership, the NCPA and the NCPA Foundation have established the NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition. The goal of the competition is to motivate pharmacy students to create the blueprint necessary for buying an existing independent community pharmacy or to develop a new pharmacy. The NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition is the first national competition of its kind in the pharmacy profession. The Pacific NCPA chapter won the competition in 2005 and was recently notified of being selected as top ten finalists for the 2011 competition.
Dr. Sherman has made great contributions in promoting independent pharmacy both at Pacific and at the state and national level. His pharmacy elective course "Opportunities in Pharmacy Practice", which teaches students about the essentials of having good communication skills and conducting a business plan was featured in the NCPA America's Pharmacist in May. He is the treasurer of California Pharmacist Association and San Joaquin Pharmacist Association.
Dr. Sherman will be recognized at the NCPA Foundation Awards Ceremony on Sunday October 9, during NCPA's Annual Convention (Oct 8-12, 2011 in Nashville, TN). The Pacific NCPA chapter will make a poster presentation of their business plan at the Convention as well.
