Program Overview

The total length of the program is designed to be completed in five calendar years.

In years one and two, students concentrate on the Pharm.D. curriculum, but can take graduate-level elective courses whenever possible.

Although it is not necessary to decide upon a specific area of the pharmaceutical sciences at the time of application, students are expected to choose a research advisor and an area of research concentration during their first year of residence.

In the third year, the student concentrates on graduate course work and research while gaining valuable teaching experience as a graduate teaching assistant.

In the fourth year, students complete the experiential requirements for the Pharm.D. degree in the Stockton area.

One of the six-week rotations is devoted to the Ph.D. research project.

In June after the fourth year, students sit for the State Pharmacy Board Examination, and receive RPh. licensure upon successful completion of the exam.

After completing the Pharmacy Board Exam, students arrange to complete the preliminary examination requirements for the Ph.D. degree, if possible.

After the fourth year, students complete the research and writing of the dissertation.

Completion of both the Pharm.D. and Ph.D. degrees in five calendar years requires that dissertation research projects are started during the first year of study and that steady progress is made towards completion of the dissertation project.
