Costs

The costs invovled in education abroad are comparable to those incurred while living on campus at Pacific. The main added cost is airfare. You should view a Sample Estimated Budget and the Estimated Budget Explanation sheet to see an example of the expenses incurred by a an education abroad student. Please note that the sample estimated budget does not reflect personal expenses nor does it show how a student's financial aid will apply. Students must visit the Financial Aid office in Knoles Hall in order to find out how financial aid will apply to their semester(s) abroad.

Below is a list of the typical costs involved for an education abroad student along with information regarding when and to whom payment is due. Please note the difference for summer versus semester and full year terms abroad.

Semester or Full Year

  • Pacific Tuition- charged to student account as usual
  • Education Abroad Administration Fee- charged to student account once complete program application has been submitted to IPS
  • Program Application Fees and Deposits- paid to program provider prior to departure
  • Program Room & Board Fees- paid to program provider or landlord, depending on the program; may be due prior to departure or upon arrival
  • Books & Supplies, Lab Fees- paid to the university or study center while abroad
  • International Round-trip Airfare & Local Transportation- paid when booking flight; paid while abroad
  • Miscellaneous Fees (typically includes items such as visa, student activity fee, required cell phone, health insurance, and passport fees)- paid to the appropriate entity prior to departure and/or while abroad
  • Personal Expenses- paid while abroad

Summer

  • All Program Fees (including Educational fees, Room & Board)- paid to program provider or landlord, depending on the program; may be due prior to departure or upon arrival
  • Program Application Fee and Deposits- paid to program provider prior to departure
  • Books & Supplies, Lab Fees- paid to university or study center while abroad
  • International Round-trip Airfare & Local Transportation- paid when booking flight; paid while abroad
  • Personal Expenses- paid while abroad
